Commandments
.
Have you ever wondered about the purpose of the Ten Commandments? When were they originally given and what were they for? Are they still applicable today? ________________________

The Bill of Freedoms - The legal conflict over the public display of the Ten Commandments provides a wonderful opportunity to examine the content of the commandments.

Introduction - And God spoke all these words, saying: "I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me."

The First Freedom - “I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, you shall have no other gods before Me.”

The Second Freedom - “You shall not make for yourself an idol.”

The Third Freedom - “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.”

The Fourth Freedom - “Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy, six days shalt thou labor and do all thy work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God…”

The Fifth Freedom - “Honor your father and your mother…"

The Sixth Freedom - “You shall not murder.”

The Seventh Freedom - “You shall not commit adultery.”

The Eighth Freedom - “You shall not steal.”

The Ninth Freedom - “Thou shalt not bear false witness against your neighbor.”

The Tenth Freedom - “You shall not covet…”

Conclusion - It should be clear, by now, that the Ten Commandments are far more than a list of dos and don’ts. Indeed, they are a primary source of wisdom about the nature of love, and the character of God.
